RYA Adult Sailing Scheme
Weir Wood Sailing Centre offers a comprehensive Adult RYA Training Scheme, perfect for individuals looking to start their sailing journey or advance their maritime skills. Our courses cater to all levels, from complete beginners to seasoned sailors seeking to refine their techniques. We run courses for groups of all ages, but are also able to offer 1-2-1 tuition for those that want to improve their skills but don't necessarily need to gain an RYA Certificate. We have a range of dingies available giving us the ability to tailor our training to meet your specific needs.
Level 1: Start Sailing This introductory course is perfect for adults new to sailing. Participants will learn essential skills such as rigging, launching, and recovering a dinghy, as well as the basic principles of sailing. By the end of this course, sailors should be able to sail in all directions under supervision.
Level 2: Basic Skills Level 2 builds on the foundational skills acquired in Level 1. Sailors will become more proficient in sailing upwind, downwind, and across the wind. This course aims to increase confidence and independence on the water.
Level 3: Better Sailing Level 3 is designed for sailors who wish to improve their sailing techniques and become more self-sufficient. Participants will learn advanced boat handling, navigation skills, and safety procedures, preparing them for more challenging sailing conditions.
Sailing with Spinnakers: This specialized course focuses on the use of spinnakers. Sailors will learn how to rig, hoist, trim, and recover spinnakers, as well as how to handle them in various wind conditions. This course is ideal for those looking to enhance their racing skills or add a new dimension to their sailing.
Seamanship Skills: The Seamanship Skills course aims to develop advanced boat handling and problem-solving abilities. Participants will learn techniques for managing sailing in adverse conditions, anchoring, and mooring.
