RYA Training Schemes

We are proud to offer a variety of Royal Yachting Association (RYA) accredited courses that cater to all levels of sailors, from eager beginners to seasoned enthusiasts. Below you'll find detailed information on our youth sailing scheme, adult sailing scheme, and powerboating courses.
RYA Youth Sailing Scheme:
Stage 1: Introduction to Sailing Designed for absolute beginners, Stage 1 introduces young sailors to the basics of sailing, including rigging, launching, and sailing in all directions. By the end of this course, participants will have a basic understanding of how to sail in light winds under supervision.
Stage 2: Developing Skills Stage 2 builds on the skills learned in Stage 1. Young sailors will refine their tacking and gybing techniques, learn how to recover from a capsize, and gain more confidence in their abilities. The goal is to become more independent on the water.
Stage 3: Sailing Independently Stage 3 focuses on sailing in moderate conditions with increased confidence. Participants will learn more advanced sailing techniques, including sailing upwind and downwind, and gain a deeper understanding of boat handling and safety procedures.
Stage 4: Advanced Techniques In Stage 4, sailors will consolidate their skills and learn advanced techniques such as racing, use of spinnakers, and sailing in stronger winds. This stage aims to prepare young sailors for competitive sailing and advanced courses.
RYA Adult Sailing Scheme:
Level 1: Start Sailing This introductory course is perfect for adults new to sailing. Participants will learn essential skills such as rigging, launching, and recovering a dinghy, as well as the basic principles of sailing. By the end of this course, sailors should be able to sail in all directions under supervision.
Level 2: Basic Skills Level 2 builds on the foundational skills acquired in Level 1. Sailors will become more proficient in sailing upwind, downwind, and across the wind. This course aims to increase confidence and independence on the water.
Level 3: Better Sailing Level 3 is designed for sailors who wish to improve their sailing techniques and become more self-sufficient. Participants will learn advanced boat handling, navigation skills, and safety procedures, preparing them for more challenging sailing conditions.
Sailing with Spinnakers: This specialized course focuses on the use of spinnakers. Sailors will learn how to rig, hoist, trim, and recover spinnakers, as well as how to handle them in various wind conditions. This course is ideal for those looking to enhance their racing skills or add a new dimension to their sailing.
Seamanship Skills: The Seamanship Skills course aims to develop advanced boat handling and problem-solving abilities. Participants will learn techniques for managing sailing in adverse conditions, anchoring, and mooring. This course is essential for sailors who want to broaden their knowledge and ensure safety on the water.
Race Clinics:
We have a team of experiences race coaches who are ready and waiting to share their knowledge and experiance with anyone ready to take the next step into competetive sailing. We offer bespoke one on one race training as well as run the RYA acreditited Courses.
The Start Racing course is designed for sailors who wish to get involved in competitive sailing. Participants will learn racing rules, tactics, and techniques, including starting procedures, mark rounding, and race strategy. This course is perfect for those looking to compete in club races or regattas.
RYA Powerboat Scheme:
Level 1: Introduction to Powerboating This introductory course covers the basics of powerboating, including launching, recovering, and handling a powerboat at low speeds. Participants will learn essential safety procedures and gain confidence in operating a powerboat.
Level 2: Powerboat Handling Level 2 builds on the skills learned in Level 1 and introduces more advanced techniques such as high-speed handling, man overboard recovery, and navigating in challenging conditions. This course aims to create competent and confident powerboat operators.
Safety Boat The Safety Boat course is designed for those responsible for providing safety cover for sailing activities. Participants will learn how to rescue sailing dinghies, windsurfers, and other watercraft, as well as how to handle emergency situations effectively. This course is essential for anyone involved in supporting sailing events or training sessions.
